Tara says Sami is peculiarly smart and that is making her nervous because she is probably going to be smarter than us. :) She seems to understand everything we tell her. Tara’s mom asked her to go get a blue crayon the other day and guess what she came back with, a blue crayon. She is also trying to learn and do things on her own. Of course, most of these are what Josh does and that sometimes irritates him because she tries to do it while he is. For example, Josh will be playing with cars and she comes up and starts to copy him. This especially infuriates him when she is grabbing the car he is playing with. :) I have an old laptop here at home that I have been letting Josh use to play games. Sami loves to watch him do this and sometimes tries it on her own as well. She’ll drag me over to open it up and bring up a game and then she just bangs on the keyboard. Doesn’t last long and she usually moves on… unless there is music to it and then she’ll just let the music play and sit and listen to it. One of her latest things is getting the little boombox of Josh’s and putting CD’s in it, listening for about thirty seconds and then putting in a new cd. Repeating this every thirty seconds rather annoys Josh and anyone around. Sami is also moving into her big bed. We didn’t really have to do this as she has only climbed out of her crib twice. She tried a third but hurt herself and never tried since. We even had it all the way down. I put her to bed for a nap one day in the big bed and fell asleep with her. Ever since, that is where she has wanted to sleep.

If you read Josh’s blog before this one, you will see that this is the same theme for this post as it was for Josh’s. It is about our little girl growing up way to fast. Of course, we have been saying that for almost two years now. Wow, only 29 days until her birthday!! Everybody always say they grow up way to fast. Sometimes that is true. Sometimes it isn’t. :)

So, what is new about Sami? Well, she is getting taller. Everyday. She now has to duck a little when going under the kitchen counter. It took Josh a few bumps before he figured it out but all it took Sami was one (that I am aware of). I guess that proves it, girls are smarter than boys. ;) She is still learning how to talk. She still tries to say words but some of them are having issues. Her latest word that she has shown improvement on is peas (please). She for some reason also likes to call me momma and call Tara dadda. We are trying to straighten that out! She has been doing very well at school and the teachers just love her. She is starting to make the transition into the 2year old room now. She has been over there once and did just fine. The sooner she gets in there full-time the better - it’s cheaper! She is still sleeping in the crib. We even keep the gate on the low level and she doesn’t show any desire to climb out. She does like to sleep in her big bed so when the time comes I don’t think that will be an issue, other than keeping her in it. I figure either that will be next or the potty training. Both are right around the corner.

Sami really loves playing with her big brother. She likes to play with his toys, especially anything that he has specifically. Of course, that drives Josh crazy. I remind him how he always did that to me when he was that age but he doesn’t want to hear any of that. She is also becoming a little more physical and likes to roughouse a little more. She likes to chase Josh around the house and then tackle and tickle him.

I could go on and on about our kids but I am getting tired. Check out Sami’s pictures section, I added a couple.

that I write another post for Sami. If you came to Sami’s blog from Josh’s, you know a little about the camping trip we just went on. If you haven’t read it yet, do so. Sami was great on the trip. She didn’t touch any of the poison oak we encountered at the first camp and she didn’t run off on us or fall into the fire at either camp. I’ll tell you that camping with a 1 year old and a 4 year old is not the easiest to do. However, we still had a great time and it was most definitely worth it. One of the things we did on the trip was watched the 4th of July celebration at one of the state lakes a few miles north of our campsite. This was by far the absolute best 4th of July celebration we have seen. We ended up sitting up on a green (golfcourse) with the locals and they were the best seats in the house. The show lasted for about 20-30 minutes and the finale was amazing. There were times where we were hit with debree from the fireworks! The best part about the show was listening to some patriotic music someone was playing from their car - joined by the rumbling explosions of the fireworks as they echoed across the mountains. Just awesome!! Sami’s eyes were wide open the whole time just soaking up the experience.

Sami had a doctors appointment today as well. She is in the 95th percentile in height and around 50 percentile in weight. Same as Josh is right now. She isn’t talking as much as she should be at this age, but her motor skills are surpassing what they should normally be. We’ll see where she is in a few months. She has been a lot more vocal lately and is trying more to say words. We just need to keep working with her.

Can you believe Sami is just a few months from being two? I can. She seems to have grown a foot in the last couple months. Ok, maybe only an inch or two, but who is counting. Her latest thing is that she realized she is now tall enough to touch the light switches. She can turn the lights off, but she isn’t quite tall enough to turn them on. Last night, I asked Josh to turn the ceiling fan on, which he did grudgingly. Just as he got back to what he was doing, Sami went and turned it off. This caused Josh to go turn it back on, Sami to turn it off, Josh to turn it on, etc…. This was SO funny because you could see how frustrated Josh was getting. Everytime he would turn it on, Sami would turn it off and just come running back smiling and laughing. Finally, Josh just stuck his hand on it and stayed there. Of course, Sami didn’t like this and now we have to keep an eye on her to get her to stop turning everything off all the time.

She also wants to help out with just about everything we do. We can always find her by our feet trying to crawl up onto the step when we are playing video games. She likes to hold onto the darts when we are playing darts. She likes to take things out and put things back. She is going to be a great helper.

I took Sami in the pool tonight. She was a little shy at first, but after being in for awhile she loosened up. We even went underwater three times and I got her to stay on the raft/boat for awhile too!

We have been doing a lot of rearranging lately in our house. Tara and I got a new bedroom set so our old bedroom furniture went to Sami’s room. The guest bed that was in there went to the game room for now until we can get rid of it. To make room for the bed in the game room, I moved the Golden Tee and Pinball machine down a little. Kids realized they had enough space where they could go behind the games. I told them not to do that and pushed the games closer to the wall to a point where I didn’t think they would fit.

Guess what, one did. Tara and I were talking in the kitchen and Josh comes running out and screamed something. It sounded like he said “Sami stop”, but we thought it was strange for him to say that and then look at us. He could tell that we didn’t understand him so he started jumping up and down and said “Sami’s stuck! Sami’s stuck!”. At that point I knew exactly where she was - stuck behind the Golden Tee machine. Poor thing couldn’t even turn her head. We pulled the machine away and pulled her out. She was pretty scared. She gave Josh a huge hug to say thank you to him for saving her.

She was very timid at first and I really had to ease her into it by having her sit on my lap, then sit next to me with her feet in, splash around with her feet, standing, etc etc etc… She did good sitting at the edge with her feet in and would stand up on the top step every once in awhile, but she didn’t really care for when I took her in and walked around with her. Renee took the kids swimming yesterday and said she was jumping in! Now that the pool is warming up, I suspect we will be spending a lot of time in it.
